I was the nerdy kid who preferred books and painting over sports. But I did love the forest and had way too much energy, so when I was five my mom put me in gymnastics to stop me from crawling on all our furniture at home. I used to spend hours out in the nearby forest with my (sometimes imaginary) friends playing games or building fortresses. My hero and role model was Rölli, the troll who lived alone in a hut somewhere in the deep woods of Finland and who was constantly up to all kinds of mischief.

I eventually quit gymnastics and when I was 20 I found ultra trail running, a sport that came to shape my entire life from the day I finished my first 50K trail race. I then moved to Switzerland and it didn’t take long until I realized it’s possible to run up to the top of the surrounding mountain peaks – not just around them. That’s how I fell in love with mountain running and eventually, alpinism.

Today (age 30) I live in Chamonix, France together with my boyfriend Jost. I try to spend the majority of my time exploring the incredible nature around here, discovering new trails and climbing mountains. Inside though, I am still the same nerdy and energetic kid I was over two decades ago, and my curiosity remains endless (oh and I still love books and painting 🤓).

With love,
Jënni
